Locked out in Enschede? Do this first
Take a breath. If there is danger, for example a pan on the stove, a small child alone inside or a smell of gas, call 112 straight away. If there is no danger, check whether a housemate, your landlord or a friend has a spare key. That is always the cheapest solution.

Students and internationals
Many of our customers in Enschede live in a student room: on the University of Twente campus, in a shared house near the city centre or in one of the larger student buildings around town. A room door with its own cylinder lock is opened in the same careful way as a front door, usually without any damage.
Please bring some proof that you live there when we arrive, such as your student card together with your rental contract or post with your name and address on it. We ask everybody for this. It makes sure that nobody can open a door that is not theirs. Lost your key? We can also make extra keys for you and your housemates.
Our prices
All prices include VAT and stay within the price standard of the NSSG, the Dutch locksmiths' guild. Opening a door that has slammed shut costs from € 85 on weekdays between 08.00 and 18.00, from € 125 in the evening until 23.00 and from € 145 at night, at weekends and on public holidays. A door that is double locked or has a security strip costs from € 119 during the day.
Removing a broken key from the lock costs from € 72. A new standard cylinder is from € 25 and a certified SKG*** cylinder with anti snap protection from € 85. A copy of a standard key is from € 4.50. There is no call out charge within the municipality of Enschede; for Hengelo, Borne, Oldenzaal, Losser and Haaksbergen it is from € 15 and for Almelo from € 25. You pay by debit card on the spot or by invoice, never with cash under pressure.
How to recognise an honest locksmith
Unfortunately there are locksmiths who quote a low price on the phone and then present a bill of several hundred euros. A good locksmith names the price before he comes, opens a slammed door without drilling out the lock, shows identification and asks for yours, and never asks you to sign a blank form. If anything sounds wrong, you can always say no.
The Dutch Consumers' Association warns about companies with an 085 phone number and words like spoed or 24/7 in the company name, because many of those are call centres that pass jobs on. We are a local company: the person who calls you back is the person who comes to your door.
